Each year we invite accomplished media ethnographers to mentor a small cohort of graduate students who are developing media projects for their PhD dissertations, and whom may not have access to institutional resources.

    Join award-winning ethnographic filmmakers Shashwati Talukdar and P. Kerim Friedman for an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at their creative process. In this workshop, the duo behind Four Nine and a Half Pictures will share their collaborative strategies and methodologies, insights from long-term projects in India, including their SVA Jean Rouch Award-winning film, Please Don't Beat Me, Sir! (2011), and sneak peeks into their latest works and evolving techniques.

    The MERiSA organizing team invite applications for an intensive writing workshop led by renowned media ethnographer, Tejaswini Ganti (New York University). Drawing on Prof. Ganti’s extensive experience in media production ethnography in India, the session will offer targeted guidance for MA and PhD students working on or towards media industry projects in South Asia. The workshop particularly aims to strengthen participants’ methodological approaches for investigating media production cultures, industrial practices, and creative labor.
